OPUS DEI

Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church is the institution to which the moral, spiritual and doctrinal formation imparted in The Lagoon School is entrusted. Opus Dei is latin for Work of God and was founded by St. Josemaria Escrivá in 1928 in Madrid, Spain. The message of Opus Dei is centred on seeking holiness in and through ordinary everyday activities especially work and study. Activities promoted by members all over the world together with others include such welfare projects as schools, hospitals, technical training centres, youth clubs, etc. In consonance with the Prelature's love and respect for freedom all of these initiatives are open to all persons without any social, cultural, religious, ethnic discrimination. A climate of love, cheerfulness, service, generosity, hard work, personal freedom and responsibility permeate these institutions.

In recognition of his heroic sanctity, the founder of Opus Dei, St. Josemaria Escriva was canonized by Pope John Paul II on the 6th of October 2002, barely 25 years after his death in Rome on the 26th of June 1975. Lagoon School like many family schools all over the world was set up under the impulse of his inspiration and encouragement.
